Ingredients

Scale
  • 32 oz (900 g) frozen tater tots
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup (150 g) frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
  • 10.5 oz (300 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup (120 ml) sour cream
  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 pound (450 g) ground beef and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add 1 diced medium yellow onion and 2 minced garlic cloves to the beef. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in 1 cup (150 g) frozen mixed vegetables and cook another 2 minutes until warmed through.
  5. In a mixing bowl, blend 10.5 oz (300 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup, ½ cup (120 ml) sour cream, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste.
  6. Fold the beef and vegetable mixture into the creamy blend until evenly combined.
  7. Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle 2 cups (200 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese evenly over the beef mixture.
  9. Arrange 32 oz (900 g) frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
  10. Bake the casserole for 35-40 minutes, or until tater tots are golden brown and crispy and cheese bubbles around the edges.
  11. Five minutes before baking finishes, sprinkle 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese on top and return to oven to melt.
  12. Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

If tater tots brown too quickly, loosely cover casserole with foil to prevent burning. For extra crispy tots, broil for the last 2 minutes but watch carefully. Drain excess fat after browning beef to avoid greasiness. Add mozzarella cheese near the end of baking to keep it melty. Use visual cues like golden color and bubbling cheese to check doneness. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
