This easy cheesy football pull-apart bread is the ultimate game day snack. Warm, gooey, and packed with a blend of mozzarella, cheddar, and cream cheese, it’s a crowd-pleaser that disappears before halftime.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large round loaf of sourdough or Italian bread (about 1 lb)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (about 8 oz)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (about 4 oz)
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives or green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a cast iron skillet.
  2. Using a sharp bread knife, cut the loaf of bread into 1-inch cubes without cutting all the way through the bottom crust. Make cuts in a grid pattern, going about 3/4 of the way down, so the pieces stay connected at the base.
  3. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in the fresh parsley.
  4. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella, shredded cheddar, softened cream cheese, and grated Parmesan. Mix until well combined.
  5. Gently pull apart the bread cubes slightly to create pockets. Stuff the cheese mixture into the cuts, packing it in well.
  6. Using a pastry brush or spoon, drizzle the garlic butter all over the top of the bread, making sure it seeps into the cuts. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of the butter for later.
  7. Place the stuffed bread on the prepared baking sheet or in the cast iron skillet. Bake for 15 minutes at 375°F (190°C).
  8. After 15 minutes, drizzle the reserved garlic butter over the top. Cover the bread loosely with aluminum foil. Bake for another 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly and the bread is golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh chives or green onions. Serve warm, pulling apart with your hands.

Notes

Don’t cut all the way through the bread—leave about 1/2 inch intact at the base. Let cream cheese come to room temperature for easier mixing. Cover with foil halfway through baking to prevent burning. Serve immediately for best texture.
