Crispy Halloween Pretzel Rods Dipped in Black Chocolate

Halloween Pretzel Rods - featured image

A simple, crunchy Halloween treat featuring sturdy pretzel rods dipped in matte black dark chocolate and topped with orange sprinkles or sea salt. This snack offers a satisfying contrast of salty and sweet flavors with a professional, gothic aesthetic.

Ingredients

  • Sturdy pretzel rods
  • High-quality dark chocolate chips (e.g., Ghirardelli or Guittard)
  • Coconut oil or vegetable oil (1 tablespoon)
  • Sea salt flakes (optional)
  • Orange or black sprinkles (nonpareils or jimmies)
  • White chocolate chips (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set out pretzel rods, tweezers or a fork, and bowls.
  2. Place dark chocolate chips and oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on 50% power for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat in 15-second intervals until smooth. Do not overheat.
  3. Hold a pretzel rod by one end with tweezers and dip about three-quarters of the rod into the melted chocolate.
  4. Lift the rod out, let excess chocolate drip off, and tap gently against the bowl to remove drips.
  5. Place the dipped pretzel on the parchment paper, ensuring they do not touch.
  6. Repeat the dipping process for all pretzels, microwaving the chocolate for 10 seconds if it thickens.
  7. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with sea salt flakes or Halloween sprinkles.
  8. If using white chocolate for drizzling, let the black chocolate set for 10 minutes first, then drizzle.
  9. Refrigerate the baking sheets for 15-20 minutes to speed up setting, or leave at room temperature for longer.
  10. Once set, transfer to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

Ensure all tools and hands are completely dry to prevent chocolate from seizing. Use low power (50%) when microwaving chocolate to avoid burning. For a professional finish, ensure the chocolate is smooth before dipping. If the coating is too thick, add a tiny bit more oil.
