Quick and easy mummy hot dogs with cheese ghosts, perfect for Halloween parties or a fun weeknight snack. Made with simple ingredients like hot dogs, crescent dough, and cheddar cheese, these spooky treats come together in under 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 standard-size hot dogs (beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for mummy eyes)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash, optional)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. Press the perforated seams together to create one solid sheet. Cut the dough lengthwise into 8 thin strips, about ½ inch wide each.
  3. Take one hot dog and start wrapping a strip of dough around it, slightly overlapping as you go. Leave a small gap near the top for the face (about ½ inch of the hot dog uncovered). Tuck the end of the dough strip underneath the hot dog to secure it. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
  4. Place two tiny dots of mustard or ketchup on the exposed part of each hot dog for the mummy eyes.
  5. Optional: In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Lightly brush the egg wash over the exposed dough on each mummy.
  6. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  7. While the mummies are baking, cut the cheddar cheese slices into ghost shapes using a small ghost-shaped cookie cutter or a paring knife.
  8. When the mummies have about 3 minutes left, place the cheese ghosts on a separate parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 2-3 minutes, just until the cheese is softened and slightly melty at the edges.
  9. Remove both baking sheets from the oven. Let the mummy dogs cool for 2-3 minutes. Arrange the cheese ghosts on a serving platter next to the mummy dogs. Serve warm with extra ketchup or mustard for dipping.

Notes

Don’t over-wrap the dough; leave a little breathing room for a better mummy effect. Let crescent dough sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes before unrolling to prevent cracking. Watch cheese ghosts carefully as they melt fast—bake only 2-3 minutes. Assemble mummy dogs up to 4 hours in advance and refrigerate; add 1-2 minutes to baking time if cold. Double the batch for crowds (plan on 2 per person).
