Fun Mummy Pigs in a Blanket: 5-Min Party Snack

fun mummy pigs in a blanket - featured image

A quick and easy party snack featuring mini sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry strips to resemble mummies, served with a tangy, spicy mustard dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 package mini sausages (about 18–20 pieces, beef or pork)
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1–2 teaspoons hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot or Tabasco)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface and slice into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide.
  3. Place a mini sausage at one end of a pastry strip and wrap the dough around it, leaving a small gap at the top for ‘eyes’. Keep strips tight but not too tight.
  4. Use a toothpick or knife tip to make two small slits near the top of each mummy for the eyes.
  5. Brush the tops of the mummies with the egg wash mixture.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  7. While baking, whisk together Dijon mustard, yellow mustard, honey, hot sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to make the dip.
  8. Remove mummies from oven, let cool for a minute, and serve warm with the spicy mustard dip.

Notes

Keep the puff pastry cold until baking to ensure flaky layers. Do not wrap the dough too tightly around the sausages to allow for expansion. The dip flavors meld better if allowed to sit for a few minutes before serving. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
