Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium ripe bananas
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 8 oz full-fat block-style cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for swirl)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for swirl)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. Mash ripe bananas in a large bowl until mostly smooth.
  3. Whisk in pumpkin puree, vegetable oil, 3/4 cup sugar, and eggs until uniform.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.
  5. Gently fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Beat softened cream cheese, 2 tablespoons sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Pour half the batter into the pan. Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese mixture on top. Cover with remaining batter.
  8. Drag a table knife or chopstick through the batter in a zig-zag pattern to create swirls.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean or with moist crumbs.
  10. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature to prevent sinking. Do not overmix the batter to avoid a tough texture. The bread is best on day 2 when flavors have melded. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
