A quick and easy Halloween appetizer featuring a creamy, orange-hued cheese ball made with cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and candy corn, served on a festive board with crackers, fruit, and nuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces full-fat block cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
  • 1/2 cup regular candy corn
  • 1 tablespoon honey or pure maple syrup
  • 1 pinch flaky sea salt
  • Assorted crackers (water crackers, wheat thins, or pumpkin-shaped)
  • 1 apple, sliced (Granny Smith recommended)
  • Dark chocolate squares or chocolate-covered pretzels
  • 1/4 cup pecans or walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup green or stuffed olives

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes or microwaving in 10-second intervals until pliable.
  2. Finely grate the sharp cheddar cheese using a box grater.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, grated cheddar, honey (or maple syrup), and salt. Beat with a fork or hand mixer until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Gently fold in the candy corn using a spatula, ensuring they are distributed evenly without being crushed.
  5. Place the cheese mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap. Shape it into a ball or a pumpkin shape by creating indentations around the equator.
  6. Wrap the cheese tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  7. While the cheese chills, arrange the crackers, apple slices, nuts, olives, and chocolate on a serving board or platter.
  8. Remove the cheese from the fridge, unwrap it, and place it in the center of the board. Garnish with rosemary or small decorations if desired.
  9. Serve immediately or keep chilled until guests arrive.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for smooth mixing. Do not use spreadable cream cheese in a tub as it contains too much moisture. Pre-shredded cheese should be avoided due to anti-caking agents. The cheese mixture can be made up to 24 hours in advance to allow flavors to meld.
