Ingredients

Scale
  • Red Layer: 1 cup (240 ml) cranberry juice
  • 1 packet (3 oz / 85 g) red flavored gelatin (cherry or strawberry)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka (optional, or use water or lemon-lime soda for non-alcoholic)
  • White Layer: 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 packet (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Blue Layer: 1 cup (240 ml) blueberry juice or blue sports drink
  • 1 packet (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry gelatin
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka (optional, or substitute with water or lemon-lime soda)
  • Extras: Non-stick spray or a little oil for greasing shot glasses or molds
  • Plastic or glass shot cups (1.5 oz / 45 ml size)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Combine cranberry juice and red flavored gelatin in a small saucepan. Let sit for 5 minutes to bloom. Heat gently, stirring until gelatin dissolves (2-3 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vodka or water. Cool slightly but do not set.
  2. Pour and Chill Red Layer: Lightly grease shot glasses or molds. Pour red gelatin mixture evenly into each cup, filling about 1/3. Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes until firm but not hard.
  3. Prepare the White Layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over cold water and let bloom for 5 minutes. Warm sweetened condensed milk until warm but not boiling. Stir in bloomed gelatin until dissolved. Add vanilla extract if using. Cool slightly.
  4. Layer the White Gelatin: Once red layer is set, slowly pour white mixture over the back of a spoon to avoid mixing. Fill to about 2/3 full. Chill for 45 minutes until firm.
  5. Prepare the Blue Layer: Bloom blue raspberry gelatin in blueberry juice or blue sports drink for 5 minutes. Heat gently until dissolved. Stir in vodka or water. Cool slightly.
  6. Pour the Blue Layer: Carefully layer blue gelatin over set white layer using spoon. Fill to the top. Chill for at least 1 hour until completely firm.
  7. Serve & Enjoy: Loosen edges gently if needed and serve chilled.

Notes

Patience is key to achieve crisp, vibrant layers. Use the spoon trick to pour layers slowly and avoid mixing. Avoid overheating gelatin to maintain setting power. Shots can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator. Avoid freezing. For dairy-free white layer, substitute sweetened condensed milk with coconut milk mixed with gelatin.
