Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably Dutch-processed)
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour (or substitute almond flour for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Mini pretzels, round (flat-bottomed works best)
  • Chocolate melting wafers or candy melts (dark or black color)
  • Orange or purple candy-coated chocolate pieces for decoration (optional)
  • Black lollipop sticks or sturdy paper straws
  • Optional toppings: edible glitter or Halloween-themed sprinkles
  • Optional toppings: white chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8-inch (20cm) square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine melted butter and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula. Mix just until combined; batter should be thick and fudgy.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Let brownies cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Cut cooled brownies into 2-inch (5cm) diameter circles using a small round cookie cutter or sharp knife.
  8. Insert a lollipop stick or paper straw halfway into each brownie circle. If the stick doesn’t stay, dip the end in melted chocolate as glue.
  9. Melt chocolate wafers or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  10. Dip the top of each pretzel into melted chocolate and place it on top of the brownie pop to form the witch hat. Hold for a few seconds until set.
  11. Decorate with candy accents or drizzle with white chocolate. Place pops upright in a foam block or stand to dry completely.

Notes

Use Dutch-processed cocoa powder for best flavor. Allow brownies to cool completely before cutting to prevent crumbling. Tap off excess chocolate from pretzels to avoid drips. Chill assembled pops for 10 minutes to set chocolate faster. Store in airtight container separated by parchment paper to keep pretzels crunchy. Variations include adding cinnamon or pumpkin spice, using dairy-free ingredients, or adding nuts.
