A festive and refreshing summer slushie combining frozen watermelon, fresh lemon juice, and blueberries in layered red, white, and blue colors. Perfect for hot days and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups diced and frozen seedless watermelon
  • 3 large fresh lemons, juiced (about 1/2 cup juice)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste; can substitute honey or agave syrup)
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • Optional: fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Freeze the Watermelon: Cut watermelon into 1-inch cubes, remove seeds if needed. Spread cubes on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Prepare the Lemonade Base: Juice the lemons to get about 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice. Mix lemon juice with 1/4 cup granulated sugar until dissolved. Add 1 cup cold water and stir well.
  3. Blend the Red Layer: In a blender, combine 2 cups frozen watermelon cubes, half of the lemonade mixture, and 1 cup ice cubes. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until smooth but slushy. Pour into tall glasses filling about 1/3 of the glass. Rinse blender.
  4. Blend the White Layer: Add remaining lemonade mixture and 1 cup ice cubes to blender. Blend until frothy and slushy, about 20-30 seconds. Pour carefully over red layer to fill another third of the glass.
  5. Blend the Blue Layer: Rinse blender. Add 1 cup blueberries and 1/2 cup water. Blend until smooth. Add about 1 cup ice cubes and pulse until slushy. Slowly pour over white layer for tri-color effect.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Add fresh mint sprig or lemon wheel on rim. Serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

Freeze watermelon cubes solid for best texture. Pour layers slowly to keep colors distinct. Adjust sugar to balance tartness. Use cold ingredients to prevent melting. Avoid overblending to keep slush texture. Can substitute sugar with natural sweeteners like stevia or monk fruit for low-calorie version.
