A light, bubbly, and refreshing summer sangria combining dry red and sparkling white wines with fresh berries and citrus for an effortless, crowd-pleasing drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) dry red wine (Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) chilled sparkling white wine (Prosecco or Brut Champagne)
  • 1 cup (150 g) raspberries
  • 1 cup (150 g) blueberries
  • 1 cup (150 g) sliced strawberries
  • Juice of one orange
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) simple syrup (or to taste)
  • Fresh mint leaves (a handful, for garnish)
  • Ice cubes (large, enough to chill without watering down)

Instructions

  1. Rinse raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries thoroughly. Slice strawberries thinly. Juice the orange and lemon, removing any seeds. Set aside.
  2. Pour 1 cup (240 ml) dry red wine and 2 cups (480 ml) chilled sparkling white wine into a large pitcher. Add the freshly squeezed orange and lemon juices.
  3. Stir in 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of simple syrup, then taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  4. Gently fold in the fresh berries to avoid bruising. Add enough large ice cubes to chill without diluting quickly.
  5. Optionally, let the sangria rest in the fridge for 10-15 minutes to meld flavors, or serve immediately.
  6. Pour into glasses, ensuring each glass gets some berries. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

[‘Use chilled wines to maintain flavor and fizz.’, ‘Gently fold berries to avoid bruising and cloudiness.’, ‘Add sparkling wine last and stir minimally to keep bubbles.’, ‘Use large ice cubes to prevent quick dilution.’, ‘Adjust simple syrup sweetness carefully as berries add natural sugar.’, ‘For non-alcoholic version, replace wines with sparkling grape juice and cranberry juice.’, ‘Can prepare all except sparkling wine and ice up to 4 hours ahead.’, ‘Frozen berries can be used but may affect texture and clarity.’]
