This isn’t just another buffalo chicken dip. It’s a whole experience. You get the creamy, spicy, tangy filling we all crave, but it’s cradled inside a warm, crusty bread bowl that becomes part of the meal. No more scraping the bottom of a ceramic dish and wishing you had something to scoop with.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large round bread loaf
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Position the rack in the center.
  2. Prepare the bread bowl. Using a serrated knife, cut a circle into the top of the bread loaf about 1 inch from the edge. Remove the top and set it aside. Gently pull out the soft bread from the inside, leaving a 1-inch thick wall all around. Save the pulled-out bread pieces for dipping.
  3. Brush the inside. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic salt. Coat the inside of the bread bowl and the cut side of the top piece. Place the bread bowl and top on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes until lightly toasted.
  4. Make the dip filling. While the bread toasts, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded chicken, buffalo hot sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and onion powder in a large mixing bowl. Mix until evenly distributed. Fold in 3/4 cup of the cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup of the mozzarella. Reserve the rest for topping.
  5. Stuff the bread bowl. Remove the bread bowl from the oven. Spoon the buffalo chicken mixture into the cavity, pressing it down gently. Pile it high.
  6. Top with cheese. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella over the top. If using blue cheese crumbles, scatter them on now. Place the bread top back on the loaf at a slight angle.
  7. Bake. Return the stuffed bread bowl to the oven and bake for 18-22 minutes, until the dip is bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and golden. If the top is browning too fast, tent loosely with foil halfway through.
  8. Rest and serve. Let it sit for 5 minutes after baking. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions. Serve with the reserved bread pieces, tortilla chips, celery sticks, or carrot sticks for dipping.

Notes

Don’t skip toasting the bread bowl to prevent sogginess. Use room temperature cream cheese for smooth mixing. Shred your own cheese for better melting. Adjust hot sauce to your heat preference. The dip can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge.
